Over 50 unaccompanied child asylum seekers who vanished shortly after coming the UK and while in the care of official bodies are yet to be found, based on information gathered.

A significant number of the unaccounted minors arrived in vessels or stowed away in the cargo areas of vehicles and are presumed to have been seized by smugglers. A specific county is often the place where they first land.

Statistical Information Shows Concerning Numbers

Disclosed data has documented 345 children vanishing from their area, with 56 of those still missing.

From 2021 and 2023, when temporary accommodations for children functioned combined with other sites in various locations, 132 children vanished from those two hotels. Among them, 108 were subsequently located but 24 are remain unaccounted for.

Between 2020 and August 2025, 213 children disappeared from care facilities for this group, with 182 found and 32 remaining vanished.

Nationality Breakdown of Missing Children

In each instance, minors from Albania were the most numerous nationality to disappear, representing half the aggregate from the facilities, 68, and more than a quarter from the reception centres, 65.

Another spokesperson stated: "The protection and well-being of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children stays important, and we take children vanishing with great concern. We persist in periodically examine our systems for new information if this occurs, sharing relevant information with regional law enforcement and municipal agencies investigating the matter."
